About Coeur d’Alene
In French, Coeur d’Alene means “heart of
the awl”, so named by French traders who
found the Indians were shrewd and “sharp”
in their dealings.
Coeur d’Alene, The City by the Lake, is the
“Heart of North Idaho”
and the gateway to a
region full of scenic places and exciting
things to see and do.
Swim, fish, boat, and enjoy our many waters:
Lake Coeur d’Alene, Hayden Lake, Lake Pend Oreille,
The Spokane River
Visit Cataldo Mission, or Farragut State Parks:
Snowboard, cross country or alpine ski at Schweitzer Mountain, Silver
Mountain, and Lookout Pass. Snowmobile in our back country, or Ice Skate on
our lakes.
There's
World Class Golfing at Coeur d'Alene Resort and The North Idaho Club.
...or Trophy Fishing in
the St. Joe River.
There are historic
museums and a
community theatre as well as antiques
galore.
For the young and young at heart try
Silverwood Theme Park and the
water-slide park, or horseback riding,
para-sailing and floatplane tours.
We have the world’s
longest floating boardwalk, tennis, and don't forget biking
on the Centennial or Hiawatha Trails.
There's bird watching, and much more!!!
